The unexpected short cut’s year: pixie, undercut and a magnificent Halle Berry with her natural afro style

It was a night that will always be remembered for the unexpected. It started a few days ago, with the controversy between Meryl Streep and Karl Lagerfeld who, having claimed that the actress turned down a Chanel suit at the last minute because another brand paid her to wear their own, had to refute and apologise. But nothing comes close to the incorrect announcement of the winner of the most anticipated category: Best Film went to Moonlight after being mistakenly attributed to the favourite, La La Land (which still collected six awards out of 14 nominations, including Best Director for Damien Chazelle and Best Actress for Emma Stone), for a few minutes.

There was a parade of stars full of Hollywood glamour wearing classic red carpet colours. From a hairstyle perspective, it was the year of short hair. Michelle Williams made her pixie cut even shorter and more platinum, Janelle Monae and Ruth Negga adorned their looks with sophisticated headbands, Scarlett Johansson once again flaunted her very edgy undercut, Viola Davis’ look was enhanced by a cropped pixie with longer fringe, offset with highlights.

Halle Berry finally embraced her natural hair,  pairing a classic red carpet dress with voluminous curls, highlighted with blonde streaks. For everyone else, there were many bob cuts of various lengths and flat waves: auburn for Emma Stone and Isabelle Huppert, tousled but elegant for Taraji P. Henson who, in a midnight blue velvet mermaid-esque dress with stunning plunging neckline, created one of the most iconic looks of the evening.
