Kathunk, kathunk, kathunk. During your lifetime, your heart will kathunk about 2.5 billion times. That’s a lot of heartbeats. And it’s a good thing because the heart is a pump that moves blood — the “juice” that keeps you alive — through your body. In Squirt! you’ll read all about blood and your circulatory and breathing systems. Chatty writing, fun illustrations, and fact-filled sidebars are sure to capture your interest. Seven activities will provide hours of fun.

The bat and the red blood cells on the cover made Squirt! look interesting. I liked the topic about the man who died from donating too much blood. The vampire story was a bit too creepy, though, especially for those who scare easily. I learned that horseshoe crabs have blue blood. Their blood uses copper instead of iron to pick up oxygen. Another interesting fact is that the Arctic woodland frog stops its heart from beating during the winter. In spring, it starts it up again. Squirt! was an awesome book about blood. I would give it 8 ¼ out of 10.
