Why do dogs bury bones?

This behaviour is a clue to the history of dogs. When dogs lived in the wild, they hunted for food. Sometimes they caught more food than they could eat at once. They would bury the leftovers to keep them safe from other animals. Then, when they were hungry, the wild dogs would return for more food. Many dogs still bury bones even though they get plenty of food from their owners.
