Are there carnivorous plants in North America?

You bet! Carnivorous plants sound exotic, but there are at least 59 species in North America. These meat-loving plants usually grow in boggy soil, which is low in nutrients. There are a lot of places like this in Canada and the United States.

In Canada alone, there are 18 species of carnivorous plants: 11 bladderworts, 4 sundews, 2 butterworts, and 1 pitcher plant. Folks in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador are so proud of the pitcher plant, they’ve made it their provincial flower!
