Post Typography, a design crew established in Baltimore by Nolen Strals and Bruce Willen in 2001, is primarily a studio of thinkers and artists with backgrounds in design, lettering, web development, and illustration. They have an infinite portfolio of international projects and collaborations, and are particularly skilled at combining illustrations and photography. As in this work, Racism Erases Face, a poster for an exhibition by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
“Racism dehumanises and depersonalises. To judge a person by their ethnic background or skin colour is to ignore their humanity,” explains Bruce Willen. “So I painted out the faces from a series of polaroids of friends and classmates. It’s a violent act, expressing the damage that prejudice and racism does to people”.
