Water on the Moon 2009-11-17 14:26:53
It may not sound like a big deal, but finding water on the Moon is creating waves of excitement. Scientists found water after firing rockets at the surface. The rockets hit the surface at a speed of about 9000 kilometres/hour. The impact kicked up about 95 litres of water — that would fill about 50 large cartons of milk.
This is what the crater and plume of water looked like.
Finding water on the Moon opens up a world of possibilities. Since humans need water to survive, perhaps astronauts could set up a base camp on the Moon's surface. From there, they could explore more of the Moon's surface.
Scientists are also excited because water can hold many clues about the history of our solar system.
Who knew that a little sploosh of water, could make such a big splash!
Canadians in Space 2009-06-1 10:25:34
 On Friday, May 29, Canadian astronaut Robert Thirsk arrived at the International Space Station (ISS). Friday was the first day of Thirsk's six-month stay at this space laboratory and his voyage will be the longest period any Canadian astronaut has spent in space.
Thirsk travelled to the ISS onboard the Russian spacecraft, Soyuz, with two others: a Russian cosmonaut and an astronaut from Belgium. This makes a crew of six onboard the ISS.
The ISS team will conduct science experiments while on their mission, which is called Expedition 20/21. A major goal is to test how the human body is affected by living in space for such a long time. Thirsk, who is also a doctor, will be the expedition's medical officer. He will also be the robotics specialist. In one experiment, he will control a rover, called Red, to move around a parking lot in Canadian Space Agency's offices in Montreal. One day, rovers on other planets, such as Mars, could be controlled from the ISS.
